Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is a perennial herb in the Lamiaceae family.  The Peppermint plant is actually a hybrid between watermint (Mentha aquatica) and spearmint (M. spicata).  This beautiful plant possesses not only a strong aroma, but a strong taste as well. Its dark green leaves are often used as a fresh garnish, and its dried flowers can be used to flavor candies, drinks, desserts and other culinary delights.  Peppermint essential oil is one of the most volatile and popular essential oils.  Pure peppermint oil consists mainly of menthol, which has several medicinal benefits.
