The First Day of Summer is June 20th this year, and the Roots on the Rise team is kicking it off with some lemony activities for the Shearwater community! We invite you to stop by the driveway at 24 Crew Court that morning for a glass of delicious lemonade to support a great cause, enjoy socializing with neighbors, and celebrate all the wonderful experiences the summer season brings us.
What to Expect
Freshly-Squeezed Lemonade: If summer were a drink, it would surely have to be lemonade! We will serve the fresh-squeezed variety from Trader Joe’s for donations to raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). It’s so yummy and made with only three ingredients - sugar, water, and lemon juice. Donations of $3 or more are recommended, and 100% of the proceeds will be given to ALSF for childhood cancer research.
Lemon Treats for the Pups: We have been working on a seasonal treat recipe for our furry friends and will be sampling them at the event. If your dog likes what we’re cooking up, we will take pre-orders for a future porch pickup. 10% of sales will also be donated to Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
Lemon-Sensory Experiences: Lemons and even plants that smell like lemons offer a rich sensory experience. We will have a lemon-themed display to explore that will be fun for all ages. You may even learn a thing or two in the process!
Little Sprouts Corner: We will have an area with activity sheets for the little ones, themed around Alex’s Lemonade Stand. In addition, Roots on the Rise has created lemony activities to have fun with your little one all summer, and we look forward to telling you about our print and digital solutions.
Cool Products & Door Prizes: Roots on the Rise has been looking for innovative products that align with our values, and we will feature a few at this event. If you can help us by voting for your favorite items, you will be entered into a drawing for door prizes. You do not have to be present at the drawing to win.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
ALSF emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alex Scott, who was fighting cancer and wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer. Her spirit and determination inspired others to support her cause, and when she passed away at the age of 8, she had raised $1 million.
Since then, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement and is one of the leading funders of pediatric cancer research in the U.S. and Canada. They have raised over $22 million to date, and we look forward to raising our goal of $333 or more to donate on June 20th. Please help us fight childhood cancer, one cup at a time!
