Did you know that hiking has become a nationwide New Year's Day tradition? State Parks all over the country have an open invitation for a “First Day Hike” to get outdoors, enjoy nature, exercise, and spend time with family and friends. We think it’s a great way to start 2024!
To participate, find a park near you at https://www.stateparks.org/special-programs/first-day-hikes/. Even if you don’t live close to a State Park, we invite you to carve out time on January 1st to go outside and connect with nature solo or with loved ones.
Here’s to a healthy, hopeful, and NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL 2024!
Now You Know!
First Day Hikes originated in Massachusetts in 1992. Since 2012, First Day Hikes have been held in all 50 states and marketed as America's State Parks First Day Hikes.
Just 380 people participated in the initial First Day Hike in 1992 at the nearly 7,000-acre Blue Hills Reservation just south of Boston. Today, tens of thousands of people are expected to take part in the annual First Day Hikes at hundreds of parks in all 50 states.
